It was a solid outing from Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, along with a couple of home runs from Adrian Del Castillo and Ketel Marte, that helped the D-backs defeat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Tuesday night.

Rodriguez is now 5-1 this season. He gave up six hits, two earned runs, walked two, and struck out six. Paul Sewald came on in the ninth inning and gave up a solo home run, but closed it out for his 13th save.

Giants starter Tyler Mahle took the loss, falling to 1-7 this season. Mahle worked five innings and gave up three hits, three earned runs, walked three, and struck out three. The Giants' bullpen didn't do manager Tony Vitello many favors as it gave up four runs (three earned).

Casey Schmitt's 12th home run this season, a solo shot, put the Giants up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. But the Diamondbacks' offense flexed its muscles with a three-run second inning.

Ildemaro Vargas' RBI groundout scored Nolan Arenado for Arizona's first run, and Ryan Waldschmidt moved to third base.

Gabriel Moreno then connected for a sacrifice fly, driving in Waldschmidt and putting the Diamondbacks up 2-1. Del Castillo then slammed his fourth home run this season, a solo blast, and Arizona took a 3-1 advantage.

San Francisco got a run back in the bottom of the third on Schmitt's RBI single that brought Willy Adames home. That cut into the Diamondbacks' lead at 3-2.

Another Vargas RBI groundout allowed Geraldo Perdomo to score and that upped Arizona's lead to 4-2. 

Marte, who remains hot, obliterated a pitch deep over the left-field wall at Oracle Park, driving in Tommy Troy as well for a two-run home run. That was Marte's ninth home run this season, giving Arizona a 6-2 lead.

Eric Hasse's third home run this season, another solo homer, got the Giants within 6-3. Moreno's single in the top of the eighth drove home Vargas and the Diamondbacks were up 7-3 at that point. Rafael Devers' RBI double in the bottom of the eighth brought home Matt Chapman and the Giants inched closer at 7-4.

With Sewald on the mound and one out away from a win, Adames hit his seventh homer this season and San Francisco was within 7-5. But Sewald got the final out and the Diamondbacks secured the win.

Arizona went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left five on base, while the Giants were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left six on base.

The Diamondbacks are now six games over .500 at 30-24, still in third place in the National League West Division. As for the Giants, they fall to 11 games below .500 at 22-33. It's not been the type of season that the Giants were looking to get off to in Vitello's first year in the dugout.

These teams will close out the three-game series with a San Francisco time first pitch at 12:45 p.m. PT, which will be 1:45 p.m. MT. The Diamondbacks will have a day off on Thursday before opening up a three-game weekend series against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
