Philadelphia Phillies sluggers Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper go deep in 4-3 win over Arizona Diamondbacks.
Teams that play against Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper know that there's only so long to keep both in check before they deliver in a big way.
When both of them do, though, that's a tough day. Schwarber and Harper both hit home runs on Saturday and the Philadelphia Phillies put up a 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park.
Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt had a little extra reason to lace up his cleats before taking the mound. Pfaadt wore pink shoelaces on Saturday, playing a part in a gender reveal for his brother's family.
But the shoelaces got more attention than his pitching. Pfaadt went six innings, giving up five hits and all four Phillies runs. They all were earned, too. In the end, Pfaadt took the loss and he's now 0-1 in the young 2026 MLB season.
Phillies starter Tajuan Walker picked up the victory on Saturday. Walker went five innings, giving up two runs (both earned), walking two, and striking out six.
Arizona jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Ketel Marte connected for a solo homer off of Walker, his second homer this season. The Diamondbacks put up an additional run in the first, too.
The score stayed that way until the home half of the third inning.
With one out, Schwarber hit a three-run home run, his fourth homer this season. Justin Crawford and Alec Boehm scored ahead of Schwarber. Then Harper stepped into the batter's box and slugged his third home run this season. Harper's blast went over the center-field wall, giving Philadelphia a 4-2 edge.
In the top of the eighth, Jose Fernandez's RBI single put the Diamondbacks within a run at 4-3.
But Arizona couldn't get any closer, giving the Phillies a win in front of their home fans.
The series between the Diamondbacks and Phillies wraps up on Sunday.
Gabriel Moreno Might Go on IL
On the injury front, there's a high probability that Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno will find himself on the 10-day Injured List soon.
An MRI on Saturday revealed that Moreno as a "muscular issue" in his lower back. Moreno left Friday night's game after the top of the third inning. He was dealing with left lower back tightness.
"He's got a lower back issue that's not a bone or the typical back situation," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said on Saturday, according to MLB.com. "It's more muscular in nature. So I'll have an update as far as what the plan is, but it's looking like an IL stint for sure."
Look for the Diamondbacks to make a corresponding move after Moreno lands on the IL.
