Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout hit his 17th home run this season as Angels rock Merrill Kelly, Arizona Diamondbacks 7-0.

Merrill Kelly didn't have things going in his direction on Tuesday night as the Arizona Diamondbacks lost 7-0 to the Los Angeles Angels at Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix.

Kelly took the loss, falling to 5-6 this season. Kelly gave up 11 hits in 5.1 innings of work. He also allowed six earned runs, walked one, struck out four, and surrendered homers to Trout and Zach Neto. He now has a hefty 5.81 ERA, stats and data that just probably doesn't sit well with Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo.

Angels starter Reid Detmers was pretty solid for his team, getting the victory and upping his season record to 3-5. Detmers gave up three hits, didn't allow a run, didn't walk a batter, and struck out three. He now has a 3.68 ERA for his team right now.

Home Runs Help Angels Rule

Neto and Trout were in the top two spots of the Angels' lineup and pretty much set the table for a victory. Neto hit his 14th home run this season, a solo blast off of Kelly in the third inning.

Trout's two-run homer came in the fifth inning. He continues to remind MLB teams that he remains a threat at the plate, even as he's rebounded from a myriad of injury issues. Neto and Trout both went 2-for-5 for the Angels, and Trout had three total RBIs on the night.

Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe went 3-for-4 for Los Angeles, and teammate third baseman Denzer Goodman and designated hitter Donovan Walton were 2-for-4. Walton also had two RBIs on Tuesday night.

Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, Corbin Carroll, and Adrian Del Castillo were the only Diamondbacks' hitters to record hits against Angels pitching.

Good News Not Found for D-backs

To be honest, there's not a lot of good news from the Arizona side of the ledger after this game. The Diamondbacks are trying to stay relevant in the National League West Division race. It's games like this one that can come back to haunt them later this season.

The Diamondbacks are 37-36, still in third place in the NL West. The Angels just recorded their 30th win of the season on Tuesday night, June 16, 2026. Los Angeles remains in last place in the American League West Division at 30-44.

These two teams will wrap up their three-game series at Chase Field with a Wednesday afternoon matchup. First pitch will be at 12:40 p.m. MST.

Diamondbacks fans who want to grab a baseball game on Wednesday afternoon have a chance to do so. Maybe they'll even see the D-backs pick up another victory, too.
