Kike Hernández came through in the eighth inning with a two-run double that helped the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park. Both teams will wrap up their 2025 MLB regular seasons on Sunday with a 12:10 p.m. Pacific Time first pitch.
The Dodgers will have to wait after Sunday's games all wrap up to see who they will play in the National League Wild Card Series. It might be the late-surging Cincinnati Reds or the faltering New York Mets, who have been hearing about their bad play from even team announcers Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez.
But that all will get hashed out in the coming hours.
Dalton Rushing hit a two-run homer to help the Dodgers offense get on the board. Things then led to Hernández's big hit.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández the night off on Saturday. Still, the Dodgers managed to get the win and can earn a series sweep of the Mariners on Sunday.
Dodgers pitching, with some help from Roki Sasaki, kept Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh off his stride. Raleigh struck out three times in Saturday night's game, a pretty rare feat for a guy who will be in the running for American League Most Valuable Player honors.
Sasaki was making his second-ever relief appearance for the Dodgers after putting together a masterful show on Friday night.
Dodgers writer Sonja Chen for MLB.com noted that while Roberts has not announced his NL Wild Card Series, Ohtani, Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are probably going to see action in the first three games. Could Tyler Glasnow be an option out of the bullpen? It's possible.
Should that happen, then it'll be Glasnow's first relief appearance since he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates back in 2018.
