Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández hit two home runs apiece and Blake Snell was magnificent over seven innings, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 on Tuesday night to win Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series at Dodger Stadium.
Things got kind of itchy late in the game as the Reds, thanks to some shaky Dodgers bullpen pitching, climbed out of a 10-2 hole and got within 10-5. But the Reds couldn't score anymore and it puts Los Angeles in prime position to win the NLWC Series on Wednesday night.
Snell went seven innings and kept Reds hitters guessing all night long.
Again, Game 2 is all set for Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
For a complete rundown of what happened during the game, check out the details below.
---
Top 9th Inning:
Blake Treinen now on for Dodgers in relief. Treinen strikes out McLain. One out. Treinen strikes out Freidl. One more out, Dodgers fans. Gavin Lux with a two-out single for the Reds. Treinen gets it done and Dodgers win.
Bottom 8th Inning:
Graham Ashcraft on to pitch for Reds, will face Mookie Betts as leadoff hitter. Freddie Freeman with a one-out single and Miguel Rojas hit by a pitch, so Dodgers have bases loaded on with two outs. Andy Pages grounds out to end the inning. On to the ninth now as Dodgers are three outs away from taking Game 1.
Top 8th Inning:
Dreyer left the bases loaded. Hayes popped out to first base. It could have been much, much worse. Dodgers still up 10-5. Reds got closer. Dodgers fans, let out a sigh of relief.
Tyler Stephenson up for Reds. Dreyer strikes him out. Bases still loaded for Reds, 2 outs now.
Um, another bases-loaded walk. Dodgers up 10-5, bases still loaded.
Steer singles for Reds off Henriquez, who is having a disastrous inning. Dodgers now up 10-4, bases still loaded, still one out. Roberts comes out and yanks Henriquez out of there for Jack Dreyer. IT'S JUST THE EIGHTH INNING! Elly De La Cruz now up with bases loaded.
Henriquez walks in a run, Dodgers up 10-3. One out, bases still loaded.
Henriquez walks Andujar, loading the bases for Reds.
Blake Snell is through after seven innings. Alex Vesia is on for the top of the eighth inning. Roberts comes out with two Reds on base, one out, and pulls Vesia for Edgardo Henriquez. Dodgers still up by 8 runs...but the Dodgers bullpen hasn't always been too trustworthy and Roberts' move might cause some of them to get itchy. Something to watch as the game rolls along.
Bottom 7th Inning:
Dodgers making Reds reliever Brent Suter eat his words. Alex Call's single and Ben Rortvedt's RBI single gave Dodgers 10-2 lead. It'll take a Dodgers collapse to lose Game 1.
Top 7th Inning:
De La Cruz RBI groundout and Stephenson RBI double get Reds on the board, now down 8-2 entering bottom 7th inning. Stretch time, Dodgers fans!
Bottom 6th Inning:
SHOHEI! Ohtani joins 2 HR game with Teoscar!! Two-run bomb makes it 8-0 Dodgers. No reason for Roberts to pull Snell at all at this point.
Snell is rolling! Nine strikeouts and only allowed one hit through six. Here's hoping Dave Roberts keeps him in for an inning or two more. No need to take him out now.
Bottom 5th Inning:
TEOSCAR BOMB! Second homer for Teoscar tonight as Dodgers now lead 6-0.
Connor Phillips coming on for Reds with two outs. Scott Barlow out.
Top 5th Inning:
Snell is cruising through five innings, allowing only one hit. He's walked just one Reds hitter and struck out seven.
Bottom 4th Inning:
Reds manager Terry Francona pulled starter Hunter Greene after three innings. Scott Barlow now on the mound for the Reds.
Top 4th Inning:
Blake Snell has been sailing through the Reds lineup, shutting them out through four innings.
WORTH NOTING!
Reds already have their bullpen active as Hunter Greene struggled through first three innings.
Bottom 3rd Inning:
LONG BALL TIME!!! Dodgers up 5-0!!
Teoscar Hernández with a three-run bomb!
Tommy Edman with a solo shot.
Freddie Freeman with a one-out walk.
Bottom 1st:
