Blake Treinen Melts Down in Los Angeles Dodgers Loss cover image

A fifth-inning implosion from Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen helps Colorado Rockies win 6-4.

If Los Angeles Dodgers fans were watching the team's Cactus League game on Saturday, they probably thought that the Dodgers would have an easy night against one of the worst franchises in the MLB.

Whoops, not so fast. The Colorado Rockies took advantage of some shaky pitching from Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen in the fifth inning en route to a 6-4 win over Los Angeles.

Treinen only got through 1/3 of an inning, giving up three hits, four runs (all earned), walking two, and didn't strike out a batter. Treinen's ERA is now at an abysmal 15.43 in Spring Training.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was probably watching Treinen out there on the mound, hoping that he would be able to shake off whatever was wrong with him on Saturday.

Alas,  it didn't happen. Landon Knack started for the Dodgers and worked three decent innings, giving up two runs on one hit, walking one, and didn't strike out a batter. Ben Casparius followed and got through a clean fourth inning, striking out two while walking just one.

Then, Treinen came on and the floodgates opened for the Rockies.

Andy Pages' third double in Spring Training scored Teoscar Hernández to help Los Angeles tie things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Then, the Dodgers took a 2-1 lead on Santiago Espinal's sacrifice fly. Alex Call's RBI single brought home Pages and gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.

Then, the Rockies went to work in the top of the fifth inning. With the Rockies closing within a run at 3-2, Vimael Machín singled to center and moved Ryan Ritter to third base.

Then, with the bases loaded and nobody out, Colorado's Jake McCarthy's single scored Ritter and Machín to give the Rockies a 4-3 lead. Nicky Lopez moved  to third base. Brenton Doyle's single to second base scored Lopez and McCarthy moved to third, putting the Rockies up 5-3 without an out recorded off of Treinen.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Dodgers got a bit closer. With Colorado now up 6-3, Hernández singled to center and Ryan Ward scored to make it 6-4 Rockies. Noah Miller moved to second base on the play.

The Dodgers threatened in the bottom of the ninth. Ward singled to left with one out, moving Josue De Paula to third base. Noah Miller, though, struck out swinging to make it two outs for Los Angeles. Then, with two outs, Griffin Lockwood-Powell grounded into a forceout at second base.

And that's a wrap on Dodgers baseball on Saturday in the Cactus League. Los Angeles falls to 10-5 in Cactus League play, while the Rockies, who will take any good news at all right now, saw their Cactus League record improve to 8-6.

On Sunday, the Dodgers will go up against the Athletics with a first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET. Then, on Monday and Tuesday, Los Angeles will go up against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers, respectively.
