Could Ehrhard Make Dodgers Opening Day Roster?
Nov 1, 2026 3:11 PM

Rising prospect Zach Ehrhard’s elite plate discipline and power-speed combo could force a bold roster shift as the Los Angeles Dodgers weigh youth against veteran stability.

If the Los Angeles Dodgers want to prioritize adding a right-handed bat to the bench, look no further than Zach Ehrhard.

Ehrhard is the team's No. 15 overall prospect, so while there are certainly players ranked above him, he gives the team a really intriguing option to switch things up.

Josue De Paula will soon graduate from that No. 1 overall prospect position, and then a bunch of players above Ehrhard don't have an ETA of 2027 as he does.

As things currently stand, Ehrhard has a 2027 ETA alongside Adam Serwinowski, Kendall George, James Tibbs III, and Mike Sorota.

Seeing as Sorota, the team's No. 3 prospect, is also an outfielder, this is where things could get interesting.

Tibbs and George can also play in the outfield, so why would MLB.com's Sonja Chen suggest that Ehrhard makes the Opening Day roster over that trio?

Dodgers must be careful with the moves they make

In theory, the Dodgers are quite rich in prospects, so if they promote a guy like Ehrhard too soon and it ends up costing them, it's not the end of the world.

Ehrhard spent all of last season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, putting up a tremendous .291/.400/.472 slash line with a career-high872 OPS.

The 23-year-old hit 20 home runs in 138 games played. He had 93 RBIs, and somehow finished with more walks (94).

Ehrhard stole an astonishing 28 bases, and while he was caught stealing 11 times, there's no doubt he could be a pinch-running option at the next level.

A promotion to the big leagues could be in his future; it just comes down to whether or not the Dodgers are ready to take a chance on him, or if they want to stick with the likes of Teoscar Hernandez and Alex Call.

As it stands, Chen has Ehrhard occupying one of the team's three true bench spots alongside Alex Freeland, and then she's undecided between Call or Hernandez.

Chen said they "could potentially move on from both of them," so that's also something to monitor, as there's a possibility that Ehrhard isn't the only player called up for the Opening Day roster.

With an impending lockout looming, the MLB just has to get to that point first, and then all of the bells and whistles can be figured out regarding what manager Dave Roberts and Co. want to do with this roster.

For now, Ehrhard's name is at least worth monitoring throughout this offseason.
