Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced on Tuesday that Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be his Games 1 and 2 starters in the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Snell and Yamamoto had stellar outings against the Philadelphia Phillies in the Dodgers' four-game sweep in the National League Championship Series.
By putting Snell and Yamamoto out there against a hard-hitting Blue Jays lineup, Roberts wants to make sure his team has an edge on the mound while starting the best-of-seven series on the road. Game 1 of the 2025 World Series starts at 8 p.m. Eastern and will be televised by Fox.
ESPN Radio will have the World Series covered throughout the series and SiriusXM offers both Dodgers and Blue Jays home team broadcasters as well.
How has Snell been doing in the 2025 postseason? Pretty good. He's put up a 3-0 record with an incredible 0.86 ERA with a WHIP of 0.52. He's struck out 28 batters while walking only five. That's a pretty solid line, which gives Roberts a lot of confidence in him.
Yamamoto hasn't been too shabby himself. In the 2025 postseason, Yamamoto has a 2-1 record and a 1.83 ERA. In 19 2/3 innings, Yamamoto has struck out 18 and has a WHIP of 0.86.
Games 1 and 2 will be at Rogers Centre in Toronto before Games 3, 4, and 5 move back to the West Coast at Dodger Stadium.
Roberts has been a target for some criticism while in his role as Dodgers manager for how he's handled his pitching staff and rosters. Yet earlier this season, Roberts seemed to know that all decisions start with him.
"I think it starts with me," Roberts said, according to MLB.com. "Just decision-making, making sure I'm in tune with the players, how they are emotionally. I think, for me, that's a lot of managing in the postseason, just really having an understanding where their heartbeat is at, how you expect them to respond to certain situations, being prepared for certain situations and then making decisions with that information."
The Dodgers and Blue Jays have sluggers in their lineups, from Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and ALCS Game 7 hero George Springer. The teams have pretty solid defensive stars in the field, too.
It's going to be an interesting matchup between Roberts' Dodgers and John Schneider's Blue Jays.
Over the next couple of days, both teams will be announcing who will be ready to go and who might miss the World Series. Schneider will announce Toronto's starters either Wednesday or Thursday.
