Gonsolin, Dean, Grove are DFA'd by team; Shohei Ohtani among Silver Slugger Award winners.

Now that the Los Angeles Dodgers have secured their second straight World Series championship, the team is starting to make moves. As much as some players are endearing to Dodgers fans, the organization realizes that tweaks will have to be made.

So, on Thursday, former All-Star reliever Tony Gonsolin, outfielder Justin Dean, and pitcher Michael Grove were designated for assignment by the Dodgers.

Gonsolin underwent surgery to do more repair work after he had Tommy John surgery in 2023. Gonsolin was due to make $5.4 million in arbitration. Now, Gonsolin will be out on the market, looking for a new place to land.

Dean put his name into the World Series history books thanks to his arm-waving antics when Toronto's Addison Barger doubled in Game 6 of the 2025 World Series. Dodgers fans remember that Gonsolin's ball was wedged into the outfield fence, sending Dean into an arm-waving frenzy and getting the umpires' attention.

If he hadn't done that, then there's a good chance that the Blue Jays would have scored a key run in the ballgame. The San Francisco Giants claimed Dean off of waivers.

Grove didn't pitch last season after undergoing shoulder surgery. Grove finished with a 5.48 ERA in 64 games with the Dodgers.

Also, as reported on Thursday, the Dodgers picked up the options of third baseman Max Muncy and reliever Alex Vesia.

There will be more moves involving the Dodgers in the coming weeks as the MLB postseason activity is well underway. The General Managers' meeting is coming up soon and the MLB Winter Meetings will take place in December.

    Silver Slugger Award winners

While the ballclub was making moves, the Dodgers also picked up some additional hardware beyond The Commissioner's Trophy for winning the 2025 World Series.

The Dodgers won the National League Silver Slugger Award as a team for the second straight season.

As for individual Silver Slugger Awards, designated hitter-pitcher Shohei Ohtani won one for his stellar 2025 season.

Ohtani, of course, had a fantastic 2025 World Series, too. But his regular-season numbers proved that he was an important player to the Dodgers once again.
