Tyler Glasnow delivered another strong rehab outing Wednesday and appears poised to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation
Tyler Glasnow appears to be nearing his long-awaited return to the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation.
The right-hander made what is expected to be his final minor-league rehab appearance Wednesday, turning in another strong performance for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Glasnow pitched 5.1 innings against Sugar Land, allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out nine.
He threw 77 pitches during the outing, with 54 of them going for strikes.
The appearance represented another important step in Glasnow's recovery after he was sidelined with lower back spasms. His last start for Los Angeles came on May 6, and he has spent the past several months working his way back through a series of rehab appearances.
Glasnow entered Wednesday's outing coming off another encouraging performance. In his previous rehab start, he recorded eight strikeouts while allowing no hits over 3 2/3 innings.
The Dodgers have gradually increased Glasnow's workload during his recovery, and Wednesday's outing allowed him to pitch beyond the five innings he was originally scheduled to complete.
His only run allowed came after he left the game in the sixth inning. Glasnow departed with one out and a runner on first base before Oklahoma City reliever Paul Gervase allowed the inherited runner to eventually score.
Overall, it was another positive outing for Glasnow as he continues preparing for a return to Los Angeles.
The Dodgers are expected to bring Glasnow back during their upcoming road trip. Los Angeles will visit the Atlanta Braves from Aug. 25-27 before traveling to Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers from Aug. 28-30.
Before his injury, Glasnow had been one of the Dodgers' more reliable starters. He posted a 2.72 ERA across seven starts before landing on the Injured List.
His return would provide a major boost to a rotation that has dealt with several setbacks this season. Shohei Ohtani remains sidelined as he continues his progression toward returning to the mound, while Justin Wrobleski is also on the Injured List because of forearm irritation.
With Glasnow now seemingly on the verge of returning, the Dodgers could soon have another experienced arm back in their rotation as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season. Not to mention, the Dodgers have started to see their rotation become healthier with the Likes of Blake Snell returning.
For Los Angeles, Wednesday's performance offered another reason to believe Glasnow is ready for his next challenge: pitching in a Major-League game again.
