With Spring Training's stretch drive taking place, the Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of making decisions about their roster.
On Sunday, the Dodgers made a number of moves, sending players into their minor-league system.
The Dodgers announced that outfielder Ryan Ward and left-handed pitcher Ronan Kopp were optioned to their Triple-A club in Oklahoma City.
Meanwhile, pitchers Carlos Duran, Carson Hobbs, Garrett McDaniels, Jackson Ferris, Wyatt Mills, Jordan Weems, and Lucas Wepf, catcher Griffin Lockwood-Powell, and outfielders Josue De Paula and Kendall George were all sent to the Dodgers' minor-league camp.
Weems did not have a stellar outing on Sunday against the Athletics, giving up four earned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. That led to the Athletics getting an 11-7 victory over the Dodgers. Weems has previous MLB experience with the Athletics, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Washington Nationals.
Maybe the Dodgers hope that Weems can find his stride once again in the minor leagues, then potentially call him back up later in the season. That remains to be seen, though.
Ward and Kopp, despite being optioned, are players that the Dodgers might want to bring back up at some point in the 2026 MLB season.
Ward has been a part of the past five Spring Trainings with the Dodgers. This spring, Ward, a left fielder, played in 12 games and went 5-for-32 at the plate. He played last season at Oklahoma City, hitting 36 home runs and totaling 122 RBIs.
Kopp appeared in five Spring Training games for the Dodgers, giving up four hits and two runs (no earned) while recording one save. Neither Ward nor Kopp have yet to see any major-league time with Los Angeles.
De Paula is a right fielder that the Dodgers think quite highly of and he played pretty well in the MLB camp. This was De Paula's third season in the Dodgers' MLB Spring Training camp. He went 9-for-24 at the plate, totaling three RBIs and scoring four runs. De Paula had a slash line of .375/.464/.881.
With these moves, the Dodgers are now going to focus even more on forming their 40-man roster ahead of the 2026 MLB season. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and pitching coach Mark Prior probably compared notes before making these roster moves.
Now, the Dodgers will get back to Cactus League action on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch on Monday is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.
