James Tibbs III and Noah Miller had two hits apiece, but it took a late effort from Los Angeles Dodgers relievers to put up a win.
The Dodgers held off the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 in Cactus League play on Sunday at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.
Kyle Nevin's RBI single late in the game proved to be the difference as the Dodgers open March on a winning note.
Miller played with three minor-league teams in the Dodgers' system in 2025. He started out in rookie ball, then was promoted to Double-A Tulsa, and finished up with Triple-A Albuquerque in the Land of Enchantment, the state of New Mexico.
Miller had a slash line of .260/.362/.665 with five home runs and 51 RBIs.
In the top of the first inning, the Angels rocked Dodgers pitcher Landon Knack. Knack gave up four hits, three runs (all earned), one walk, one strikeout, and surrendered two home runs.
The Angels' Vaughn Grissom hit a two-run home run over the center-field fence, scoring Nelson Rada ahead of him for a 2-0 lead. Logan O'Hoppe followed with his second home run of the spring, another shot to center. That put the Angels up 3-0 at that point.
The Dodgers scored single runs in the first and second innings, closing the gap to 3-2. Then, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Tibbs hit his first spring home run over the left-field wall. That tied things up at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Griffin Lockwood-Powell singled to right and Zyhir Hope moved to second for the Dodgers. Nevin followed with an RBI single to right, scoring Hope and moving Lockwood-Powell to second base.
The Dodgers took a 4-3 lead at that point, but things got a little sticky in the top of the ninth inning as the Angels tried to mount a comeback.
Yolmer Sánchez walked for the Angels, but Niko Kavadas struck out swinging for the first out. Kyren Paris doubled to left, sending Sánchez to third base. Raudi Rodriguez lined out to right fielder Chris Newell, and Sánchez was not able to score.
Now, with two outs, Dodgers reliever Cody Morse coaxed the Angels' Tucker Flint to ground out to second baseman Austin Gauthier. That was the ballgame as the Dodgers pick up another Cactus League victory.
With the win, the Dodgers are now 7-3 in Cactus League play, while the Angels fall to 3-7.
On Monday and Tuesday, the Dodgers will play the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Guardians, respectively.
