Proposed Trade Sends Dodgers' Call Back to NL East

With Alex Call facing a potential non-tender, a swap with the Philadelphia Phillies offers the Los Angeles Dodgers a final chance to salvage value.

If the Los Angeles Dodgers can get any return value for Alex Call this offseason, they're going to jump on the opportunity.

Recently, The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya and Katie Woo said they expect him to be non-tendered next season, meaning the Dodgers would move on him for nothing.

Both believe they missed their window on trading the 32-year-old, but Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller doesn't believe that's the case.

This would be far from a major trade, but putting together a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, as Miller suggests, would be a huge benefit to both sides.

Phillies are in the market for a cheap outfielder

If Philadelphia wants to make a move for an inexpensive outfielder who can get the job done, look no further than Call.

The Dodgers will certainly be fielding calls for him once again, pun intended, and he's a super trade-friendly asset to any team he'd join.

Call is still eligible for three more years of arbitration, and he's estimated to only make $1.9 million next season.

For a team like the Phillies, that's absolutely perfect. They'd be getting some much-needed depth, as seen with a near-catastrophic end of the regular season where they were a game away from missing the playoffs.

Miller notes that bringing in Randy Arozarena or Ian Happ is a long shot, even for the Phillies, so they could easily settle for Call, someone who's spent roughly three years in the National League East.

Call has already played for three teams since making his big-league debut in 2022. The outfielder seemingly can't catch a break, though his longest tenure was from the back half of the 2022 season through the start of the 2025 campaign with the Washington Nationals.

Dodgers have nothing to lose by trading Call

Call surpassed 100 games played with the Dodgers this season, and there wasn't much to love about a 0.2 WAR player in 2026.

After appearing in 88 games this year, Call slashed .233/.349/.307 with a brutal .655 OPS.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with having a slugging percentage lower than an on-base percentage, but it's alarming, to say the least.

Defensively, Call was a negative WAR player this season. He's never had a defensive WAR season above 1.0, so it's not like he's stellar in the outfield, which makes up for his numbers at the plate.

Sometimes a change of scenery is necessary, and while Call has had plenty of that these past few years, a potential trade to the Phillies, where he spends the next three seasons, could do him wonders.
