If River Ryan is, indeed, headed down to Triple-A from the Los Angeles Dodgers' Spring Training camp at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, then he made a lasting impression.
River Ryan went out there and threw four innings of one-run baseball against the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Ryder Ryan followed and threw 2 2/3 innings. allowing just two runs, and the Dodgers posted a 5-3 win. It was a split-squad game for Los Angeles, too.
River has been making sure Dodgers manager Dave Roberts doesn't forget his name. He's the No. 6 prospect in the Dodgers' minor-league organization, according to MLB Pipeline.
"I think that he’s open for whatever the organization needs. He’s a strong-minded young man," Roberts said, according to Dodgers beat reporter Sonja Chen of MLB.com. "And then it goes back to what’s best for him. … But obviously, coming off what he came off, consistency of routine makes a lot of sense.”
Roberts is referring to River coming back from Tommy John surgery. Right now, the Dodgers may have enough pitching to last them when the 2026 MLB season begins.
River, though, is making it very, very difficult for Roberts and Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior to choose to send him down.
Edgardo Henriquez picked up his first save in Cactus League play with a spotless ninth inning.
As for how the Dodgers scored against Texas, the Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
But outfielder Kyle Tucker connected for his second home run in Cactus League play, a two-run shot that gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead after one inning.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Rangers' Mark Canha hit a two-run homer that put Texas back on top 3-2. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Teoscar Hernández's double scored Mike Sirota, tying things up at 3-3.
With two outs, Andy Pages singled to give the Dodgers a 4-3 lead. Los Angeles added another run in the eighth inning, and that wrapped up the scoring and a Sunday afternoon victory in the Arizona desert.
While one Dodgers squad was beating the Rangers on home turf, another Dodgers' squad headed over to play the Chicago Cubs in Mesa, Arizona.
Jack Suwinski and Mookie Betts homered, and the Dodgers had three four-run innings en route to a 14-8 win over the Cubs.
After the two victories, the Dodgers are now 15-7 in Cactus League play. On Monday, the Dodgers will host the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET.
