Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Ryder Ryan worked two solid innings, despite giving up one run, as the Dodgers went on to pick up a Spring Training win on Monday.
The Dodgers held off the Colorado Rockies 7-5 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
In his two innings, Ryan allowed one hit, one run (earned), and recorded one strikeout while walking none. It's a good sign for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to see Ryan come out and look pretty solid in his outing.
Of course, Ryan gave up that one run, but he seemed to have a command for his pitches throughout his two-inning stint.
Dalton Rushing hit a solo home run in the second inning to give the Dodgers a quick 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth inning, James Tibbs III smashed a two-run home run over the center-field wall. The Dodgers led 3-1 over the Rockies at that point.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Rockies' Mickey Moniak and Kyle Karros hit back-to-back home runs, tying things up at 3-3.
Then, in the top of the eighth inning, the Dodgers' Elijah Hainline connected for a two-run home run that put Los Angeles back in the lead at 5-3. For the Dodgers in their half of the ninth inning, Joe Vetrano hit a solo home run.
When the ninth inning ended for the Dodgers, they were up 7-3. But the Rockies were not done scoring. After Colorado picked up a run to close the gap to 7-4, they had the bases loaded with one out. But Kyle McCann struck out to make it two outs and the bases still loaded for Colorado.
The Rockies' Braxton Fulford coaxed a bases-loaded walk and the score then became 7-5, still with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. But TJ Rumfield grounded out to second baseman Hainline to give the Dodgers a Cactus League victory.
Payton Martin picked up the victory in relief for the Dodgers. On the day, Los Angeles sent eight pitchers to the mound, giving Roberts and Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior plenty of time to see their pitchers get in some work.
With the victory, Los Angeles now has an 8-5 record in Cactus League play, while the Rockies drop to 6-5. But the Rockies might look at their Spring Training record and feel somewhat good about it since it is a winning mark at this time.
On Tuesday, the Dodgers will go up against the Cleveland Guardians. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET.
