It was happening again, Dodgers fans. Tyler Glasnow threw seven no-hit innings against the Colorado Rockies on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. Reliever Blake Treinen followed in the eighth inning and kept the Rockies in check.
But Tanner Scott, who came on in the top of the ninth inning, gave up a leadoff double to Ryan Ritter and it snapped the no-hit bid. The Dodgers, though, beat the Rockies 3-1 and hold onto their one-game lead in the National League West Division.
Glasnow had a gem going.
Ritter pulled up after a teammate lined out to short for the first out. He had to be helped off the field by Rockies medical personnel.
The Dodgers took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on Mookie Betts' two-run double. Andy Pages and Shohei Ohtani scored from second and third base, giving the Dodgers a lead.
Glasnow, though, is the big story here. He walked two and struck out 11 in his seven innings of work.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts pulled Glasnow after seven innings, turning the game and no-hitter over to Treinen in the eighth inning. Treinen worked a 1-2-3 eighth to keep the no-hitter in play.
Betts needed this double really bad. Actually, the Dodgers needed it, too, as they look to put more space between them and the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers keep their one-game lead in place because the Padres, behind Fernando Tatis Jr.'s sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, helped San Diego beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 at Petco Park.
Dodgers fans probably were holding their breath when seeing Scott, who entered with an ERA above 4, take the mound in the ninth. When he gave up Ritter's double, they were probably getting ready to tweet or post nasty comments.
With the win firmly in place, they probably will have a word or two about Scott blowing the no-hit bid. But he got the next three outs and gave the Dodgers a much-needed victory.
