Justin Wrobleski became a key piece of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2026, earning his first All-Star selection and strengthening his case for a starting role next season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the 2026 season with considerable uncertainty surrounding their starting rotation. Injuries and delayed returns created opportunities for pitchers to take on larger roles, and Justin Wrobleski emerged as one of the team’s most encouraging surprises.
Wrobleski began the season with a chance to establish himself as a dependable option. By the end of the year, the left-hander had made a compelling case to remain in the starting rotation, delivering consistent results while navigating multiple responsibilities throughout the season.
His emergence was particularly important as the Dodgers managed their pitching staff through an extended campaign. What initially appeared to be an opportunity to provide temporary coverage became a breakout year that strengthened his standing within the organization.
Wrobleski takes advantage of rotation opportunity
Wrobleski moved into the rotation full-time in April as Blake Snell’s delayed return left the Dodgers searching for additional starting options. Rather than simply filling innings, Wrobleski established himself as a reliable presence.
He finished the regular season with a 12-5 record and a 3.66 ERA across 140 innings. In 28 appearances, including 22 starts, he recorded 118 strikeouts against 31 walks while posting a 1.14 WHIP.
Wrobleski’s strongest stretch came in June. From June 13-29, he recorded a 1.77 ERA and struck out 21 batters over 20.1 innings, reinforcing his case for an extended opportunity in the starting five.
His performance earned recognition beyond the Dodgers, too. Wrobleski received his first National League All-Star selection as a late addition to the roster. He then made an impression in the All-Star Game, striking out five batters in two innings.
The outing provided another memorable moment in a season that significantly raised his profile.
A different role in the postseason
Wrobleski’s regular-season success did not mean his responsibilities would remain unchanged throughout the year.
The left-hander briefly missed time in August because of forearm inflammation before returning on Sept. 1. As the Dodgers prepared for the postseason, the club adjusted his workload and moved him into a multi-inning relief role.
That transition gave Los Angeles another option for navigating games beyond its primary starters. Wrobleski ultimately earned a place on the Dodgers’ National League Championship Series roster and made two relief appearances against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Although his postseason responsibilities differed from the role he held for much of the regular season, his ability to contribute in multiple capacities added value to the pitching staff.
Wrobleski strengthens his case for 2027
The Dodgers will have decisions to make when assembling their rotation for 2027, particularly as they evaluate the health and availability of their established starters.
Wrobleski’s performance gives the organization another credible option. His combination of results, command and experience handling both starting and relief assignments provides flexibility as Los Angeles determines how to structure its pitching staff.
At 26, the left-hander also remains under team control for several seasons, giving the Dodgers additional time to develop him without immediately facing a free-agent decision.
There is no guarantee that Wrobleski will retain a rotation spot, especially with competition expected for starting opportunities. However, his 2026 campaign has given the Dodgers a stronger reason to trust him with a larger role.
