While everyone is waiting for the first pitch to be thrown in Game 3 of the 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, one question is worth considering.
Can the Dodgers put together three straight solid games at home, sweep these next three games, and win the World Series at Dodger Stadium?
Anything is possible, of course. But the Dodgers would love nothing more than to finish out this best-of-seven series on their home turf and avoid going back to a rowdy Rogers Centre.
Game 3 can be a jumpstart to that happening. Tyler Glasnow will get the start on Monday night and faces a wily veteran in Toronto's Max Scherzer. The Dodgers offense has not been really clicking on all cylinders so far against the Blue Jays. Los Angeles did enough in Game 2, backed by a complete-game outing from superstar pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Designated hitter-pitcher Shohei Ohtani will get the ball in Game 4. Of course, Dodgers fans remember what happened the last time Ohtani combined his pitching-and-hitting skills into what many people are calling the greatest single performance in baseball history.
Wouldn't it be great, though, if the entire Dodgers lineup just mashed the ball like crazy against Scherzer on Monday night? Los Angeles could quell any "Mad Max" chatter by knocking him out early.
Also, think about this, too: The Dodgers want to get some type of psychological advantage over the Blue Jays in the worst way. Coming out in Game 3 and literally taking Toronto out of its plans, both on the mound and at the plate, will be a goal worth achieving.
The Blue Jays are in Los Angeles until the end of this week. Toronto is stuck in the City of Angels, having to block off all pro-Dodgers language that they might hear.
The game, of course, takes place between the first- and third-base lines. It either will be won or lost in that space.
It's critical for the Dodgers' starting pitchers to go deep in the next three games. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts does have a bullpen, but how much trust does he really have in it? Outside of Roki Sasaki, who has become the de-facto closer for Roberts, who else can go out there and slam the door on a Blue Jays threat?
Los Angeles needs Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández and even the wily, old veteran Kiké Hernández to pick it up at the plate. The Dodgers have scored nine runs on 12 hits over the first two games. The Blue Jays have scored 12 runs on 18 hits. Yes, most of that came in the Game 1, 11-4 blowout.
Ohtani, Will Smith, and Max Muncy have hit home runs against the Blue Jays. That's it.
For Los Angeles to take the next three games at Dodger Stadium, pretty much everything has to fall into place. Hitting, pitching, and defense all have to work together to make sure the Blue Jays don't leave LA with any hope.
Glasnow can go a long way to kickstarting the Dodgers in the right direction on Monday night. He'll need all the support he can get at the plate, too.
So, Dodgers Nation, it's time to see what the team can do in the most important three games of the entire 2025 season.
