For anyone who thinks Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman just sits back and enjoys those World Series titles, well, that's a wrong assessment.
Friedman is always looking for ways to improve the ballclub. Even after signing relief ace Edwin Díaz this offseason, could he work his magic for another big splash?
It's highly possible. On Monday, Jan. 5, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic had some cogent thoughts on Friedman and just who the Dodgers might peg for another big free-agent signing.
"Dodgers people like to say that Andrew Friedman’s preferred method of operation is 'hanging around the backboard,'" according to The Athletic. "If a player’s price in trade or free agency drops, the Dodgers’ president of baseball operations will attempt to grab him on the rebound and dunk on the industry yet again.
"(Free-agent outfielder Kyle) Tucker on, say, a four-year deal with opt-outs and a massive AAV would be a classic Friedman add," Rosenthal and Sammon wrote. "The idea also might appeal to Tucker’s low-key personality. Rather than the center of attention, he would be perhaps the Dodgers’ fifth- or sixth-biggest star.
"The whole thing still sounds like a long shot — as does any chance of trading for (Milwaukee Brewers' ace starting pitcher Freddy) Peralta or the Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal — but when Friedman is hanging around the backboard, it’s best to stay attentive," The Athletic article stated.
OK, so they don't think a Skubal deal will probably get done. But the Dodgers have a way to make something happen when people count them out.
Los Angeles and manager Dave Roberts have a big, big goal in mind: A Three-Peat of becoming MLB's World Series champions. If that happens, then Tinseltown might just throw the biggest party ever seen.
Move over Leonardo DiCaprio and Sydney Sweeney, here come the Dodgers.
Friedman is no dummy. The Dodgers' ownership better thank their lucky stars every day that he's the man with a plan in the front office.
Don't count the Dodgers out of the Skubal possibilities, either. Where there's a will, there's a way and Friedman will find it.
