Kyle Tucker Better Be Ready for Los Angeles Dodgers cover image

With a new free-agent contract in hand, Kyle Tucker needs to be ready for the Los Angeles Dodgers from Day One.

Kyle Tucker better be ready to rock for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Day One of the 2026 MLB season.

Tucker, known by his moniker "King Tuck," better make sure that crown is steady upon his head. The Dodgers need Tucker to come ready to go out of the gates.

So far this Spring Training down at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, Tucker has seen limited action. In four games of action, he's had seven at-bats with one hit four walks and three runs scored.

Last season with the Chicago Cubs, where he played near the Wrigley Field ivy for just one season, Tucker had a slash line of .266/.464/.841, according to his MLB.com profile. He hit 22 home runs and had 73 RBIs. Tucker has just two 30-homer seasons on his record, coming in 2021 and 2022 for the Houston Astros.

Tucker was a key member of that 2021 team which won the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies.

When Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman got down to business with Tucker, he made it clear that the Dodgers needed to fortify their outfield situation.

It was one of those spots which, at times, caused some anxious moments for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and his coaching staff. Of course, the same thing could have been said when Roberts looked to the bullpen for a solid closer.

Nevertheless, the Dodgers overcame any outfield issues to win a second straight World Series title. Now, Los Angeles goes for a third straight world championship with, hopefully, Tucker playing a big part.

It's well known that Tucker is not a boisterous player. He's not going to have the loudest voice in the clubhouse if things get out of hand. But Tucker is a guy who pretty much keeps to himself and goes about his business.

Maybe the Cubs' organization was looking for Tucker to be a strong leader on the club last season, but that's just not his nature.

With the Dodgers this season, Tucker can simply stay within his own zone of genius and focus on improving day after day. There are plenty of leaders on the team, ranging from Freddie Freeman to Mookie Betts.

But Tucker does need to get going early. He's been known to have a slow start here and there, something Astros fans saw happen early and often. Yet, once he starts to get going, Tucker is one of the best left-handed hitters in all of baseball.

King Tuck, put that crown on and wear it proudly, along with your Dodger Blue uniform.
