San Francisco Giants' offense is on fire right now. Giants look to finish series against San Diego Padres on winning note.
As much as the San Francisco Giants' offense was out to lunch against the New York Yankees, it looks like a trip to sunny Southern California was the tonic that the team needed.
On Tuesday night, Willy Adames played the part of a leadoff hitter to perfection. He opened the game with a solo home run and finished going 4-for-5 as San Francisco knocked off the San Diego Padres 9-3 at Petco Park.
Giants fans, the team is going for a sweep -- a road series sweep, no less -- on Wednesday afternoon.
Logan Webb deserves a round of applause, too. He obviously was not happy with his first start against the Yankees. Webb was looking to make amends for that outing.
Webb came through with flying colors on Tuesday night, working six innings of three-hit ball. Webb gave up three runs (all earned) while walking four and striking out five. JT Brubaker and José Buttó came on in relief to keep the Padres in check.
Padres starter Germán Márquez was ambushed by the Giants' lineup. As we said, Adames led off the game with a home run. Then, Jung Hoo Lee smoked his second double this season to right. Heliot Ramos and Matt Chapman scored, giving the Giants a 3-0 lead before Webb took the mound.
In the top of the third inning, Matt Chapman hit his first homer this season, a shot to left field, and the Giants were up 4-0. Jackson Merrill's RBI single in the bottom of the third put the Padres on the board, closing the gap to 4-1.
Then, in the top of the sixth, Adames singled to center and drove home Harrison Bader, giving San Francisco a 5-1 edge.
Lee was 3-for-5 on Tuesday night, while Rafael Devers was 2-for-5. Watching the Giants' offense come alive is probably making Giants manager Tony Vitello feeling a whole lot better. He's notched his first two victories as an MLB manager.
Heading into Wednesday afternoon's series finale at Petco Park, the Giants are 2-3 on the season. After the series ends in San Diego, the Giants will board a plane for a cross-country flight.
San Francisco will go into a four-game weekend series, starting Thursday, against the New York Mets at Citi Field.
