For a team that's supposedly not going to be too busy at the Winter Meetings, the San Francisco Giants are sure in some intel reports on Monday.
Besides being among three teams that recently spoke with former Houston Astros pitcher Framber Valdez, it looks like the Giants are trying to be in the market for another veteran player.
Reports on Monday indicate that San Francisco, along with the Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals, have been looking at veteran outfielder Harrison Bader. Last season, Bader finished up the 2025 season with the Phillies, so it's not surprising to see them mentioned in an MLB.com report.
But the Giants? This is interesting.
"Harrison Bader ended the 2025 season with a two-month stint as a Phillie and put up a strong .301/.361/.463 slash line while playing his characteristically stellar defense in the outfield," according to the MLB.com report.
"The 31-year-old is one of the better mid-range options available to teams looking for outfield help, and at least three clubs are reportedly interested in him: the Phillies, the Giants and Royals.
"Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has expressed interest in bringing back Bader," the report indicates.
"The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported Sunday that Bader 'piques the Giants’ interest,' while MLB Network insider Jon Heyman has reported on Kansas City's interest in Bader. Royals outfielders produced a 73 wRC+ this past season, the worst mark of any outfield group in MLB. "
In his nine-year MLB career, Bader has played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, and Phillies. He has a career slash line of .247/.313/.401 and a career OPS of .714.
Last season between the Twins and Phillies, Bader hit .277 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs.
Would Bader be a solid addition to the Giants? Yes, because he brings a veteran presence right into the clubhouse. Bader has spent time in both leagues and probably has a good knowledge of any team that the Giants play next season.
The Winter Meetings are just getting underway and San Francisco is in the mix for two really good free agents in Valdez and Bader. So, Giants fans and followers will have to wait and see what happens during the week and beyond.
