The San Francisco Giants announced a slew of moves with waiver claims galore.

The San Francisco Giants had a busy day as they needed to cut quite a few people in order to stay at the 40-man limit.

San Francisco announced not one, not two, but eight roster moves, most of which were players being claimed off waivers.

Certain teams were well below the 40-man limit, but the Giants were at one point well over 50 players due to all of the injuries that went down this season.

They may not have liked putting players like Zach Morgan or Jose Butto on waivers, but those are the tough decisions that they had to make in order to get everything squared away.

Five Giants were claimed off waivers

Every once in a while teams can find a diamond in the rough on waivers, and that's what these clubs are hoping for as they picked up the following Giants players:

  • Jose Butto claimed by Texas Rangers
  • Duncan Davitt claimed by Cincinnati Reds
  • Brett Harris and Shay Whitcomb claimed by Philadelphia Phillies
  • Zach Morgan claimed by Baltimore Orioles

Of those five players, Butto and Davitt are right-handed pitchers, Harris and Whitcomb are infielders, and Morgan is a catcher.

Morgan, 26, was never given a chance to succeed in San Francisco. The former No. 226 overall pick seemed to have a ton of potential, but the Giants either ignored that or truly believed they didn't have room for him on this roster.

Butto being picked up was another surprising move as the Giants put one of their Opening Day roster pitchers on waivers.

Sure, he only made three appearances before his season was cut short due to injury, but those are the two main players to stand out on this list.

Two pitchers were outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento

At the end of the day, not every player is going to get claimed off waivers. Left-handed pitcher Seth Lonsway and RHP Joel Kuhnel cleared waivers, but the Giants immediately outrighted them to Triple-A Sacramento to get them off the 40-man roster.

Kuhnel played for three different teams in 2026, but ended his year with 10 appearances for the Giants.

Lonsway made his MLB debut this season, but sported a -0.1 WAR and 7.71 ERA in his 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.

Tristan Beck rounds things out

The last move that the Giants revealed on Monday, Nov. 2, was that RHP Tristan Beck was placed on unconditional release waivers.

Beck had appeared in 85 games for the Giants dating back to his big-league debut in 2023, but similar to Lonsway, he was a negative WAR player this season.
