The San Francisco Giants look to play spoiler and snap a year-long drought as Anthony Molina leads the charge against the San Diego Padres.
There have been six occasions when the San Francisco Giants have won three games in a row this year, but this is their chance to win four in a row for the first time since Sept. 24-28, 2025.
It's been nearly a full year since the Giants have won four consecutive games, and that's a statistic that seems hard to believe.
Currently riding their eighth three-game win streak of the year, securing that fourth win in a row has been something that has eluded the Giants for quite some time.
Remember, their recent sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals was their first traditional three-game sweep this season, so that certainly doesn't help their case as they try to put together a winning streak.
Now, the only team standing in their way is the San Diego Padres.
The 62-85 Giants may have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, but they now have a chance to play spoiler against a 78-68 Padres squad that is currently only in sole possession of the final National League Wild Card spot by half a game.
Padres have won four in a row
Things weren't going San Diego's way from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5 as they dropped eight of those 11 games, but suddenly, they've turned a corner.
The Padres haven't just won four straight games, but they've also won five of their last six, and six of their last nine.
While the Giants are 5-4 in their last nine, they've won seven of their last 11, so both of these teams definitely have momentum on their side.
Both teams enjoyed an off-day on Thursday, Sept. 10, and now the Giants get to finish a six-game homestand as the Padres come to town for the final series between these division rivals this season.
San Diego leads season series 6-4
It would require a sweep for the Giants to win this season series, but it's not like that would mean much in the long run.
No matter what happens in this series, the Padres will still be in playoff contention while the Giants are on the outside looking in.
Every game matters though, so a potential fourth straight win for the Giants could turn into the Padres missing the playoffs by half a game, and it could all come back to Friday, Sept. 11.
The undefeated Anthony Molina is set to take the mound for the Giants as he puts his 3-0 record and 2.79 ERA to the test against Robbie Ray (11-8, 3.39 ERA).
