Arizona’s Labor Day victory seals a fifth straight October without San Francisco, leaving Buster Posey to navigate a costly roster rebuild after a season defined by failure.

After a grueling season, the San Francisco Giants have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Arizona Diamondbacks win on Labor Day put them far enough ahead of the Giants, and they have the tiebreaker over them, so officially, the Giants can close the book on a postseason run in 2026.

Obviously, no one expected a 60-85 team to turn things around in these last few weeks and make the playoffs, but FOX Sports confirmed that San Francisco is indeed out of the conversation moving forward.

This marks the fifth straight year that the Giants have missed the playoffs, and it leaves a major question mark for Buster Posey and Co. to figure out in the offseason.

Nothing has gone right for the Giants this season

Even with all of these veterans who are being paid a pretty penny, there wasn't ever a time where everyone was clicking at the same time.

Injuries or slumps derailed everything, as seen in the present moment where Rafael Devers is red hot but seemingly no one around him was part of the lineup on Opening Day.

After a 3-8 start to the season, it became clear this was going to be an uphill battle. The Giants would later improve to 6-8, only to fall to 6-12.

By the time May came around, the Giants were 13-18 and it only got worse from there. They entered June with a 23-36 record, one that hadn't seen them reach .500 all season.

Fast forward to the All-Star break when this team was 41-55 and there was at least a bit of optimism knowing what was coming at the trade deadline.

Not only did the Giants become major sellers, but they also cut a huge deal with the Boston Red Sox that brought in Marcelo Mayer.

Mayer has yet to appear for the Giants this season due to an injury, once again proving that the pieces simply weren't there for a successful 2026 campaign.

Technically, the Giants don't have a traditional sweep this season. They took two of three against the Atlanta Braves on June 16-17, and then the makeup game was rescheduled for August 31, and the Giants came out victorious.

It was a moral victory, at the very least, for a team that has gone 19-30 since the All-Star break.

With 17 games remaining, the Giants can toy around with their lineup even more than usual to see what rookies and young studs can help this team improve in 2027 and beyond.
