Sam Hentges rejoins San Francisco Giants' pitching staff after rehab stint; Ryan Walker, Gregory Santos sent down.

On the heels of getting blown out by the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-3 on Saturday, the San Francisco Giants have been busy with a flurry of moves.

It was reported on Sunday that left-handed pitcher Sam Hentges is rejoining the Giants' pitching staff. Hentges is returning after a rehabilitation assignment and now is off of the 15-day Injured List.

In another move, the Giants recalled right-handed pitcher Dylan Smith from the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats.

As these moves were being made, right-handed pitchers Ryan Walker and Gregory Santos were optioned to Sacramento. Those moves were done after Saturday's game.

Right now, San Francisco is 15-24 entering Sunday's series finale at Oracle Park with the Pirates. This isn't the start that the Giants' front office wanted to see under first-year manager Tony Vitello.

Some fans might be shaking their heads still after Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey and the front office decided to trade two-time Gold Glove catcher Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday.

In exchange for Bailey, the Giants got left-handed pitcher Matt Wilkinson and the Guardians' 29th overall pick in the 2026 draft (Competitive Balance Round A).

Still, the Giants might be looking to get more of an offensive contribution from their young corps of catchers right now.

These moves, along with the Bailey trade, are not the only ones that San Francisco has been doing in the past 48-plus hours.

Starting pitcher Logan Webb has been dealing with right knee bursitis. Now, he's on the 15-day IL retroactive to May 6. Additionally, right-hander Trevor McDonald and catcher Logan Porter were recalled from Sacramento, too.

When Webb's spot comes up in the starting rotation and he's not there, then this will be the first time in five years that he's missed a start.

Webb is one tough customer, that's for sure.

So, having him go on the IL means that he's taking his health situation seriously.

The Giants hope that they can earn a series win on Sunday afternoon at Oracle Park.
