As the San Francisco Giants find themselves in need of left-handed help on pitching staff, team signs Ryan Borucki.

No team wants to enter a new MLB season with injuries nagging its pitching staff. Well, that's what the San Francisco Giants have cooking right now.

On Saturday, the Giants addressed their needs in the left-handed pitching department.

Left-hander Ryan Borucki signed a Major League contract with the ballclub, according to Giants beat reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com.

Borucki was in the Chicago White Sox's Spring Training camp before being released late last week. Borucki wasn't going to make the team's 40-man roster, so he was on the market.

Why, though, did the Giants get him? Sam Hentges and Reiver Sanmartin are out. Hentges is still working to come back from his left shoulder surgery going all the way back to September 2024.

Guardado also reported that Sanmartin is out for potentially three months after getting a right hip flexor strain during his time in the World Baseball Classic.

Left-hander Erik Miller should be good to go, though, when the 2026 MLB season kicks off later this week. Borucki will join the Giants' reliever corps.

In eight MLB seasons, Borucki has a 4.28 ERA after pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Seattle Mariners.

San Francisco moved Hayden Birdsong, who awaits Tommy John surgery, to the 60-day Injured List to make a spot available on the 40-man roster for Borucki.

Giants' Upcoming Schedule

Cactus League play is now in the Giants' rear-view mirror, but that doesn't mean they're done playing exhibition games before Opening Day.

On Sunday, the Giants will face their Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, in a game. Then, on Monday and Tuesday nights at Oracle Park, San Francisco plays exhibition games against Sultanes de Monterrey of the Mexican League.

Finally, on Wednesday night, the Giants get the honor of starting the 2026 MLB season with a night game against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees. Logan Webb gets the Opening Night start for San Francisco.

Latest Team Transactions

Beyond the Borucki signing and transfer of Birdsong to the 60-day IL, the Giants have made a few other moves lately. Let's get you caught up on a few of them.

On March 19, the Giants sent phenom first baseman Bryce Eldridge, infielder-outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald, and outfielder Grant McCray to the River Cats. On March 20, outfielder Victor Bericoto, right-handed pitcher Gregory Santos, and infielder Osleivis Basabe were reassigned to the team's Minor League camp.
