On Thursday, the San Francisco Giants sent Bryce Eldridge and two other players down to the minor leagues.

Bryce Eldridge will not start the season in the majors.

On Thursday, the San Francisco Giants sent Eldridge, Tyler Fitzgerald, and Grant McCray down to the minor leagues.

Susan Slusser, who's the senior baseball beat reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle and covers the Giants, reported the news in a post on X.

Some Giants fans probably aren't happy to hear this news, yet it might be a good thing for Eldridge. He's just 21 years old and has a lot of room to grow and improve.

Eldridge, a first baseman, was 9-for-40 in Cactus League play with one home run and six RBIs. He didn't have a stolen base and finishes his Spring Training with the Giants after posting a .225 batting average and a .830 OPS.

He played in eight games in the Giants' 2025 Spring Training, but saw that number increase to 19 games this season. In 10 games for the Giants in the 2025 MLB regular season, Eldridge hit a paltry .107 and a .476 OPS.

He was 3-for-28 with two doubles and four RBIs. But he also struck out 13 times, a number that has to really come down. In Spring Training this year, Eldridge stuck out 19 times among his 19 game appearances, averaging one strikeout per game.

Jeff Young, who writes about the Giants for Around the Foghorn, shared an interesting tidbit about Eldridge hours before the Giants made the move with the first baseman.

"FWIW the @SplashHitPod labels Bryce Eldridge's odds of making the Opening Day roster at 50/50," Young posted on X. "The power has been undeniable (.225 ISO, .450 SLG) this spring, but so has the swing and miss (38.0% K rate). These are factors that the club needs to weigh."

There's no doubt that Giants manager Tony Vitello and the Giants' organization like what they see from Eldridge. But it's just not good enough, at this time, to secure him with a spot on the major-league roster.

Additionally, there is no rush for the Giants to push him ahead of schedule. Look what Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey had to say about Eldridge in July 2025.

"“One of the luxuries now with having Rafael Devers is that we’re not as rushed with Bryce,” Posey said, according to NBC Sports Bay Area. “Randy Wynn and Kyle Haines and player development I know feel strongly that it’s important for these guys to get their reps.”

Don't be surprised if Eldridge comes back up to the major-league level at some point this season.

Fitzgerald, a second baseman, was 7-for-37 this Spring with one home run and seven RBIs. He ended up hitting .189.

McCray, a center fielder, was 8-for-30 with one home run and four RBIs.
