A blister ends the San Francisco Giants' Logan Webb's turbulent year prematurely.
As of Friday, Sept. 18, the San Francisco Giants officially shut down Logan Webb for the rest of the season.
Webb was placed on the 15-day Injured List due to a right middle finger blister in a move that was retroactive to Sept. 15.
Infielder Nate Furman was also placed on the 10-day IL, so the corresponding moves saw outfielder Victor Bericoto reinstated after his rehab assignment along with right-handed pitcher Duncan Davitt being recalled from Triple-A.
Webb's 2026 season was a bit all over the place, to say the least. He was absolutely tremendous in the month of June, but then everything fell apart.
Being named National League Pitcher of the Month was the highlight to his season, no doubt, but he sure would've loved to end it on his terms instead of being shut down due to a blister.
Obviously, with the Giants out of the postseason hunt, there was no need to risk anything long-term with the 29-year-old so this was absolutely the right decision to make.
Webb is under contract through 2028
Remember, this is a guy who won't become an unrestricted free agent until the 2029 season. He's set to earn another $23 million next season and then $24 million in 2028, so keeping him healthy is imperative, to say the least.
For a pitcher to be making that much money, they better be worth it. For the most part, Webb has proved his worth, though it's been a difficult 2026 season where the highs were incredibly high, but the lows were quite low.
For reference, he gave up just three earned runs in 38 innings during June, but then allowed 21 earned runs in 28.2 innings the very next month.
Webb's ERA quickly went from 3.09 to 3.93, and that's an incredibly large jump to be making from June 27 to July 29.
The California native settled back in and had a great month of August, but September hasn't gone according to plan.
This month, Webb sports an 11.08 ERA as he's given up 16 earned runs in 13 innings. His season ERA is up to 4.31, a drastic difference to the 3.50 it was after his start on August 15.
Regardless, Webb is penciled into this rotation for at least the next two seasons, and the Giants are hoping they don't repeat what has been an abysmal 64-90 year, one that now sees Webb as the latest player shut down due to injury.
