Jesus Rodriguez's bases-loaded single helped San Francisco Giants motor past Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 in 12 innings.

While it wasn't a pretty MLB game at Oracle Park on Sunday afternoon, the San Francisco Giants will gladly take the result.

Catcher Jesus Rodriguez's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Giants a 7-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Giants have been looking for some type of spark to change the fortunes of their 2026 MLB season so far.

Maybe Sunday's adventures are just the tonic Giants manager Tony Vitello and his team needed. Giants reliever Ryan Borucki, the seventh pitcher Vitello used, picked up the win and is now 1-1 this season. Pirates reliever Justin Lawrence, the seventh pitcher used by Pirates manager Don Kelly, was the loser.

So, how did this madness end? Let's go back to the 10th inning. The Giants and Pirates were tied 4-4 after nine innings. In the Pirates' half of the 10th inning, with one out, Marcell Ozuna was hit by a pitch. He went to first base and the Pirates' designated runner Nick Gonzales was at third base.

Spencer Horwitz slammed his sixth double this season, bringing Gonzales and Ozuna home for a 6-4 Pirates lead. The Giants, though, had something to say about that in their half of the 10th inning.

Bryce Eldridge struck out to lead off the 10th with designated runner Luis Arraez at second base. Heliot Ramos then grounded out to shortstop with one out. Arraez moved to third base and Rafael Devers moved up to second base.

Then, with two outs, Willy Adames singled to left, scoring Arraez and pinch-runner Christian Koss to tie things up again at 6-6.

Going to the Giants' half of the 12th inning, Ramos was the designated runner at second base. Matt Chapman doubled with one out to right. Ramos moved up to third base and Chapman reached second base. On a 3-0 count, Lawrence walked Drew Gilbert to load the bases.

Rodriguez stepped up to the plate and eventually hit a blooper that landed in open space in right field. Ramos hurried home, crossed home plate, and the postgame celebration was in full gear.

This was the type of game that when Vitello and Kelly look at the runners left on base totals, well, they might pull their hair out. For the homestanding Giants, they were 7-for-22 with runners in scoring position and left 16 runners on base. The Pirates were 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base.

Adames was 3-for-6 for the Giants, while Jung Hoo Lee, Devers, Ramos, and Chapman all had two hits apiece. As a team, San Francisco totaled 13 hits against Pittsburgh's seven hits.

Giants starter Tyler Mahle worked 5 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, two walks, and struck out eight. Pirates starter Bubba Chandler went five innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs, walking one, and struck out three. Neither were involved in the final decision.

San Francisco goes to 16-24 this season, putting the Giants in fifth place in the National League West Division. Pittsburgh falls to 22-19, but the Pirates are in fourth place in the National League Central Division.

While the Giants can celebrate Sunday's come-from-behind game, they are going to have a tough challenge awaiting them in Southern California. The Giants head down to Dodger Stadium for a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. All four games, by the way, will have a 7:10 p.m. Pacific time start.

So, Giants fans can enjoy a late dinner while watching their team battle against their bitter rivals in the Dodgers.
