MLB's long winter's nap, not including Spring Training, ends as San Francisco Giants host New York Yankees.

It's time, San Francisco Giants fans. Time to head out to Oracle Park on Wednesday night as the Giants open the 2026 MLB season against the New York Yankees. It should be a packed house at Oracle Field.

One important detail before talking a little about MLB Opening Night, as it's being touted across the MLB spectrum. Netflix will be showing Wednesday night's game, which means it's not going to be on another cable network or streaming anywhere else.

OK, let's get to the game.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET (5:05 p.m. PT). The Yankees will send Max Fried out as their starter, while the Giants counter with Logan Webb. This will be Webb's fifth consecutive Opening Day start for San Francisco.

Last season, Webb, 29, finished in fourth place in National League Cy Young Award voting after leading the Majors in innings (207) and the NL in strikeouts (224) in 2025.

After Webb gets done with his work, Giants manager Tony Vitello is going to look toward his bullpen to shore up the back end. According to Giants beat reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com, it looks like Ryan Walker will handle closer duties this season.

Guardado also points out that Erik Miller and José Buttó are going to be seen as potential bridge pitchers, meaning they'd come in and cover innings that lead to Walker coming on into a game.

That's not etched in stone, though. Vitello may adjust that set-up a bit. Still, look for those three pitchers to be involved late in games this season.

This Yankees-Giants game has some historical value to it. Before the Giants moved to the West Coast, their home was in New York City. The Yankees and Giants franchises have crossed paths many times.

Baseball historians have put out a lot of statistical data over the seasons involving this titanic clash. Who's winning the all-time record battle? That goes to the Bronx Bombers. The Yankees are up 39-27-1 all-time, including postseason games, over the Giants.

Another little tidbit about Wednesday night's opener. This will be the first MLB regular-season game to use the ABS system, the Automated Ball-Strike Challenge System. ABS was tested in Spring Training games last season and in this one. Now, it's entering the real-time playing field.

Opening Day officially is on Thursday, when all the rest of the MLB world takes the field for those teams' initial games.

But, under the bright lights of Oracle Park, the Yankees, behind slugger Aaron Judge, and Giants will get things started.

Welcome to the 2026 MLB season, Giants fans.
