After playing center field last season for the San Francisco Giants, Jung Ho Lee is OK with move to right field.

Jung Ho Lee will be moving to a new position in the outfield for the San Francisco Giants in the 2026 MLB season.

And, that's OK with him.

Lee played center field last season for the Giants. But, with the franchise adding Harrison Bader to the team, Bader will play center field.

When talking with the Giants' brass about making this shift to right field, Lee was OK with the new situation facing him.

"It was a smooth conversation," Lee said via interpreter Justin Han on Friday, according to Giants reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com. “I know that bringing in Bader is going to make the outfield way better. It wasn’t hard to make a decision saying that I’ll move over to right field. Whatever it takes to help the team out."

Lee was referring to a conversation between himself, Giants manager Tony Vitello, and Giants general manager Zack Minasian.

Vitello is looking at this new outfield situation with a promising eye. He sees Bader as a true asset in the Giants' outfield, giving some relief across the board with Lee in right, Bader in center, and Heliot Ramos in left field.

"At Oracle, you have to have a center fielder in right field," Vitello told Guardado. "[Lee’s] openness and willingness to go out to right field and train out there has been key.

"It's going to have to go a step further because our park is unique," Vitello said. "The fact that he is a true center fielder, I think, can benefit the outfield play as a whole, because I know last year it wasn't as good as it needed to be."

Lee has played the past two MLB seasons with the Giants. He only played in 37 games in 2024, but really saw that number jump up last season to 150 games. Lee's slash line in the 2025 MLB season was .266/.407/.734. Lee had 31 doubles and 12 triples in the 2025 MLB season, too.

Bader's defensive play can give Vitello a sense of comfort out in center field. With Ramos and Lee as outfield bookmarks, if you will, the Giants are pretty well set up for a decent outfield lineup.

Still, it's going to be worth watching to see how Lee adjusts to playing in right field. Oracle Park has some interesting corners down the right-field line that can prove to be problematic at times.

So, Lee will have to take his knowledge from center field and apply it to playing right field.

Let's see how Lee adjusts to the move during Spring Training games, too.
