When San Francisco Giants open 2026 MLB season against New York Yankees, Logan Webb will start fifth straight opener.

In some news that probably doesn't surprise any San Francisco Giants fans and followers, right-handed pitcher Logan Webb will get the start on Opening Night against the New York Yankees.

Webb will mark his fifth straight opener as the starter for the Giants, but there's a little more edge behind it. This will be the first Opening Night for Giants manager Tony Vitello, so he hopes that Webb can go out there and keep Aaron Judge and Co. on their heels in the batter's box.

By the way, Opening Night at Oracle Park is on March 25, just 11 days away at this point. Webb's five consecutive Opening Day/Opening Night starts are only second to six starts in openers that were done by Giants legend Juan Marichal.

Five Giants pitchers had four consecutive opening starts, too. Among that list is Madison Bumgarner and Tim Lincecum.

“He basically was as close to hitting the mark we wanted him to hit yesterday as possible and did it at a high level of competition,” Vitello said Saturday, according to Giants beat reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com. “That was great. He kind of finished that next step, and then he’ll be ready for the season.”

Giants fans have been watching Webb simply prove dominant as a starting pitcher for Team USA. Webb only allowed one earned run in 8 2/3 innings of work in the World Baseball Classic in his past two games.

Vitello indicated that Webb would get one more Cactus League start before Opening Night rolls around. That should give Vitello and the pitching coaches a barometer of how Webb will look ahead of facing the Yankees.

Webb's work with Team USA as an active pitcher is done. Yet Webb will stay with Team USA as long as it keeps playing in the WBC. Team USA's next game will be against the Dominican Republic at loanDepot Park in Miami on Sunday. Pittsburgh Pirates star ace Paul Skenes is due to get the start for Team USA.

It's fair to say that Webb, Vitello, and the rest of the Giants want to put together a winning record in the 2026 MLB season. A postseason appearance wouldn't be bad, either.

The franchise, from top to bottom, apparently has grown tired of not finishing on a positive note. For San Francisco, the franchise made a change in managers. Now, Vitello has had time to get to know his players in Spring Training.

While that's all well and good, results on the field during the regular season matter most. Webb will do his best to get the Giants off to a winning path against the Yankees.
