While Logan Webb of the San Francisco Giants will be a part of World Baseball Classic, he's still focused on season ahead.

With starting pitcher Logan Webb scheduled to go be a part of the World Baseball Classic, the San Francisco Giants want to see what he's throwing like right now.

For Webb, he's well aware that the Giants need him to be healthy this season. He also knows that being healthy includes having a couple of lively pitches in his arsenal.

Webb is going to be a part of Team USA at the WBC, and he plans to stay with the team all the way to the end. That's quite a difference from Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who has made it clear he's only pitching one game with Team USA. After that, he's headed back to Spring Training.

On Tuesday, Webb saw some live action against the Los Angeles Angels. He will get just one more exhibition start before going to Team USA. Still, Webb totally understands that he needs to get it together before Opening Day,

If Team USA moves through to the quarterfinal round, then Webb might see a start in mid-March. That, though, does not mean he's off schedule for the Giants at all. Giants manager Tony Vitello offered some clarification on that point when talking with The Athletic.

“Everything that the Giants had laid out for him, it’s almost on par with what’s going on,” Vitello said. “There’s one day that flips. I think it’s an added day in there. Otherwise, it’s the same schedule he’ll be on with us. …

"Skubal will do his thing for an outing and I like the U.S.’s chances in that one," Vitello said. "And of course, whenever Webby’s got the ball for them, we’ll have it on in here and be cheering like we were for the (Olympic) hockey match.”

Skubal is in his walk year with the Tigers, so he's looking for a big-time contract. Webb is understandable about Skubal's situation at this time.

“Look, I’m not in his shoes,” Webb said. “I’ve got three years left on my contract. He doesn’t. He has one year, and then he’s got to be a free agent. … His team and his agents and all of them came up with this plan. It’s his life, his career. He can do what he wants.”

Webb and fellow Giants pitcher Landon Roupp keep tabs on one another during Spring Training. There is a mutual appreciation between the two players. Webb, though, just loves seeing younger players come in and do their best for the ballclub.

“It’s been fun to watch all these young guys come out here and really just show their stuff,” Webb said in an interview with Giants reporter Andrew Baggarly for The Athletic.

“It’s a big emphasis this year with (assistant pitching coach) Christian Wonders," Webb said. "These guys like stuff first, and then we get to the other stuff. I keep saying stuff! But yeah, that’s the goal. And then these guys are just — I’m gonna say it again — showing their stuff. It’s been fun to watch.”

It will be fun for Giants fans to watch Webb get out on the mound and mow down opposing hitters throughout the 2026 MLB season.
