The San Francisco Giants' winning streak was snapped as the San Diego Padres pounced on Anthony Molina early.

Things did not go according to plan for Anthony Molina as he gave up seven earned runs in just three innings of work.

Yunior Marte pitched five solid innings for the San Francisco Giants after Molina was pulled, but by that point, the damage had been done.

The San Diego Padres led 7-1 through three innings, and not even a four-run fifth inning was enough to get the Giants back into this one as they fell, 7-5.

San Francisco scored first, leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, but they ended this game being outhit 12-6.

Not even a grand slam from Rafael Devers could save the Giants in this one as their three-game winning streak came to an end, and they've now fallen to 62-86.

What happened to Molina?

With the win, the Padres improved to 79-68 and are clinging to the final National League Wild Card spot.

The Giants already know they're out of the playoffs, so at this point, they're just looking to play spoiler in their final series of the year against one of their division rivals.

Molina, who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves, had a 5.40 ERA and -0.1 WAR in his three appearances with them.

Upon coming over to San Francisco, he picked up the win in each of his first three appearances (which included a pair of starts), and it seemed like things were trending in the right direction.

Suddenly, everything came crashing down. Molina allowed more earned runs in this start (seven) than he had allowed in all six of his 2026 appearances combined.

Of the 16 runs he's allowed in 22.1 innings, only 13 of those were earned, and he previously hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in a single outing, though he still picked up the win in that start on Monday, Aug. 31.

Moving forward, the Giants need to keep a close eye on the 24-year-old as a second consecutive start that looks like this one could derail everything.

Devers' 36th home run of the year was a grand slam

Devers, 29, is putting together a career year. He has a 1.000 slugging percentage in September in a month that comes with six home runs and 17 RBIs in just 34 at-bats.

His 1.476 OPS speaks volumes as to how high a level he's been playing at, but not even his grand slam against the Padres could propel the Giants to victory.

A double and a pair of walks got things started, and then Devers immediately cleared the bases with a two-pitch homer off veteran starter Robbie Ray, who picked up his 100th career win in this one.
