World Series victories in last 25 seasons helped San Francisco Giants earn high spot in article from The Athletic.

In the past 25 seasons, the San Francisco Giants have won three World Series championships while losing one in another appearance. The Giants' success, while having a stellar lineup, was due, in large part, to the managerial style of Bruce Bochy.

Bochy played a significant role in helping San Francisco become the darlings of the baseball world during a run of incredible success.

While that feels like a long-ago memory right now for Giants fans, those championship seasons have played a role in landing the franchise among the top 10 in baseball.

That's according to a new article from The Athletic, where Senior MLB Writer Stephen J. Nesbitt, using a points system, puts San Francisco as the No. 7 franchise in the big leagues over the past 25 years.

It is fair to say that the Giants are undergoing some structural changes in their on-field look. New manager Tony Vitello brings his previous experience as head coach with the University of Tennessee to his first MLB managerial role.

Yet the previous success of the Giants' franchise should give the team's fans some hope for a turnaround.

"The Giants have only one postseason appearance in the past nine years, yet they still sit at No. 7," Nesbitt wrote. "That’s the power of four World Series appearances — and three titles — in 25 years.

"After acquiring Rafael Devers last summer, San Francisco added Luis Arraez and Harrison Bader this winter," Nesbitt continued. "If prospect Bryce Eldridge is MLB-ready, the lineup could be formidable. The pitching staff has an ace, Logan Webb, but is light on highly proven arms, especially in the bullpen."

Devers, Arraez, Bader, Eldridge, and Webb are a potential five-pack that can bolster the franchise's hopes of getting back on top in the National League West Division. Of course, they have to really put things together in hopes of knocking the Los Angeles Dodgers off their winning ways.

Here's the breakdown of San Francisco's postseason results in the past 25 seasons: A World Series loss in 2002; appearing in the National League Divisional Series in 2003;  World Series titles in 2010, 2012, and 2014; and NLDS appearances in 2016 and 2021.

It's been 11 seasons since that last World Series title for a franchise that dates back to its days in New York City.

But San Francisco fans really want to see more out of their team in the 2026 MLB season. They'd probably be quite happy if Vitello could field a winning team, one where the entire ballclub is competitive from the get-go.

Maybe, just maybe, the Giants can improve their positioning among MLB franchises with a solid 2026.
