Split Squads Take Fields for San Francisco Giants cover image

A couple of Saturday games for San Francisco Giants will give players more time to get in Spring Training work.

With Spring Training getting into its home stretch, the San Francisco Giants, just like every other MLB club, is looking closely at all players in camp.

As the days dwindle down toward Opening Day, Giants manager Tony Vitello and his staff are making notes and observations about everyone looking to stick with the big-league club.

On Saturday, the Giants will take part in split-squad games. This is a golden opportunity for some players to get more time to shine against other big-league teams.

One split-squad Giants team will host the Texas Rangers, while another split-squad group hits the road to square off against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rangers game has a 3:05 p.m. ET first pitch, while the Diamondbacks game has a 3:10 p.m. ET first pitch.

In case you missed it, on Friday, the Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-3, raising their Cactus League record to 10-2. That's a really nice record for Giants fans to see, but it's just Spring Training ball.

Yet, for a team like San Francisco looking for any positive signs, that record probably makes some players feel great about the 2026 MLB season. Any positive vibes are good ones for the Giants, who want to reach a new level this season.

Giants manager Tony Vitello is in his first MLB Spring Training camp. He's surrounded by some major-league coaching talent, too. They will be able to provide Vitello with a reasoned mindset and approach to the MLB game, which is different from his college days with the University of Tennessee.

Giants Tidbits and Notes

Meanwhile, if you missed Logan Webb's start for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic against Team Brazil on Friday night, then you missed a whale of a start.

He worked four innings and allowed only a first-inning home run. Webb had a full array of pitches working for him, ranging from a sneaky fastball to a tantalizing slider and curveball.

Team USA's Aaron Judge hit a first-inning home run to set the pace. Eventually, Team USA defeated Team Brazil 15-5 at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

On Saturday morning, Giants beat reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com offered a couple of updates on injury situations that are notable at this time.

• Rafael Devers has been out of the lineup since Feb. 26 due to left hamstring tightness, but he’s been taking swings in the batting cage and hitting off a Trajekt machine, so he could return to action early next week.

• Jung Hoo Lee rolled his ankle while gearing up for Team Korea in the World Baseball Classic, but the issue is considered minor and isn’t expected to affect his availability for the tournament.
