Would you believe that the San Francisco Giants report to spring training in just a little over a month? That's what is happening very, very soon.
Heading into spring training, the Giants' current 40-man roster as of Jan. 2, 2026, is pretty pitching heavy. Now, changes and adjustments are going to be made. Yet it's worth taking a bird's-eye view of just who is on the Giants' roster at this time.
Let's kick it off with pitchers. Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and newcomer Adrian Houser will probably be in the starting rotation. Go ahead and toss Tyler Mahle in there, too. Giants manager Tony Vitello might tweak that rotation a little, but not too much.
Among other pitchers currently with the Giants include Tristan Black, Hayden Birdsong, Spencer Bivens, JT Brubaker, Jose Butto, Jason Foley, Matt Gage, Sam Hentges, Trevor McDonald, and Erik Miller.
Among other pitchers for the Giants, according to their 40-man roster listed on the Giants' MLB.com site, are Joel Peguero, Randy Rodriguez, Landon Roupp, Reiver Sanmartin, Carson Seymour, Kai-Wei Teng, Blade Tidwell, Ryan Walker, Carson Whisenhunt, and Keaton Winn.
Who's available to back up catcher Patrick Bailey right now at the position? San Francisco also has Jesus Rodriguez and Daniel Susac available at this time.
Third baseman Matt Chapman leads the infield crew for the Giants. Besides Chapman, other players lined up to get out there and playing the infield include Willy Adames, last season's phenom Bryce Eldridge, Tyler Fitzgerald, Christian Koss, and Casey Schmitt.
What about Rafael Devers? Well, the Giants' 40-man roster has Devers listed as the team's designated hitter. He might see some time in the field, but Devers might simply be counted on to fill that DH role for Vitello.
Drew Gilbert and Jung Hoo Lee are among San Francisco's outfielders currently at hand. Other outfielders for the Giants include Justin Dean, Jerar Encarnacion, Luis Matos, Grant McCray, and Heliot Ramos.
That's how things look for Vitello and Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey going into Vitello's first spring training. He'll be looking to get some guidance about putting together a lineup, if he wants the guidance, from the Giants' two "wise men." They are Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy, who have spent plenty of time in dugouts as players and managers.
Let's see what Vitello comes up with by using these players that he has available.
