San Francisco starting pitcher is getting some attention heading into new season. Can he make a big splash?

It's time to fully lock in and look straight ahead toward spring training for the San Francisco Giants and their ace of the starting rotation, Logan Webb.

Webb should be all set up for a banner season. In fact, Webb just might be in the running for the National League Cy Young Award if everything goes right.

As all MLB team look ahead to spring training, a group of MLB.com reporters that follows specific teams gathered some thoughts together. This list of predictions also includes one involving Webb and the Giants from Giants reporter Maria Guardado of MLB.com.

Guardado's prediction? Webb becomes a Cy Young Award winner.

"Webb has earned Cy Young votes in four consecutive seasons and finished as high as second in 2023, so he could be poised to take another step forward and finally snag the coveted prize next year," Guardado wrote.

"Dethroning (Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul) Skenes, the reigning Cy Young winner, won’t be easy, but Webb is always finding ways to get better and will be motivated to solidify his status as one of the premier starting pitchers in the game," Guardado added.

Last season, Webb was 15-11 with a 3.22 ERA. In 207 innings of work, Webb struck out 227 hitters. Webb has pitched all seven seasons of his MLB career for the Giants, too.

In 2023, Webb finished second in the Cy Young Award voting; last season, he finished fourth. If all goes well in 2026, then he just might be able to secure the National League's top pitching award.

First-year Giants manager Tony Vitello probably would not mind seeing Webb go out there every fifth day and completely dominate opposing hitters.

Webb needs to come through in a big way for the Giants in 2026. The ballclub desperately wants to be mentioned in the same breath as the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Winning the National League West Division title over the Dodgers would be a big feather in Vitello's cap.

Imagine seeing Webb pitch a postseason series-clinching win for San Francisco. That would set the Bay Area party scene on in a big, big way.

But Webb will need help. He'll need other pitchers like new additions Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle to pick up their share of the pitching weight.

It's nice to think about Webb holding that NL Cy Young Award trophy high in the air. Let's see, though, if the Giants can secure another big trophy - The Commissioner's Trophy, which goes to the team winning the World Series.
