While Arizona Diamondbacks are favored to get him back, don't rule out Gallen being an addition for San Francisco Giants.

It appears that the San Francisco Giants just might still be trying to bring in another quality starting pitcher for their staff this season.

There has been some talk that the Giants were trying to sign former Houston Astros left-handed starter Framber Valdez, but nothing has come of it yet. Still, it should bring some measure of joy to Giants fans that their ballclub is getting mentioned in some of these rumors.

So, who's the latest name connected with the Giants? None other than right-handed starter Zac Gallen, who has been with the Arizona Diamondbacks over the past few seasons.

Gallen didn't accept the Diamondbacks' qualifying offer, so he's now on the free agent marketplace. Just like Valdez, Gallen is looking for his next club. Arizona really wants him back, but there are other teams in the mix for his services.

Longtime MLB executive Jim Bowden, who writes about the MLB for The Athletic, put together a list of the top free agents still available. In Bowden's list, Gallen ranked as the No. 2 top free agent out there behind Valdez.

"Like Valdez, Gallen is tied to draft pick compensation because both were extended but rejected the qualifying offer," Bowden wrote.

"Based on the fact Gallen is coming off of a down year by his standards, it would make sense if he signed a short-term deal with an opt-out clause to get back into the market next offseason without any draft compensation attached," Bowden continued.

"The Diamondbacks would love to get him back and are considered the front-runners to re-sign him (and wouldn’t have to give up a draft pick to do it)," according to the article. "However, several teams have shown interest, including the Orioles, Braves, Giants, Tigers and others."

The Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, and Detroit Tigers all have eyes on improving from last season's results.

Last season, Gallen was 13-15 with a 4.83 ERA. Obviously, Gallen didn't perform at a high level. The Diamondbacks know that Gallen can pitch better than that, too.

Yet, if the Giants could potentially get Gallen to join their rotation, then it gives Giants manager Tony Vitello one more arm to tighten up his pitching plans.

Don't think, either, that Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey wouldn't love to have Gallen on his team. Gallen has some veteran experience to his name, even some World Series experience with the Diamondbacks.

If Posey can pick him up, then the Giants would be sitting pretty good in their starting rotation.
