Shane Bieber talks about his focus on the mound as trade rumors involving the Cleveland Guardians ace begin to heat up.
The MLB trade deadline is still over a month and a half away, but that hasn't stopped the rumors and speculation to start up as teams recognize their needs.
One pitcher who has emerged as a potential trade candidate is Cleveland Guardians' ace Shane Bieber.
A report from earlier this week named a list of teams that could become potential suitors if Bieber becomes available like some executives believe he will. That list includes a number of contenders such as the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Baltimore Orioles.
Trading Bieber wouldn't be a surprise considering how the organization has handled past pitchers such as Trevor Bauer, Corey Kluber, and Mike Clevinger. It's impossible to think that Bieber is naive to what his future may hold either.
After striking out nine and pitching a dominant 7.0 innings against the Houston Astors on Sunday afternoon, Bieber was asked about the trade rumors:
Bieber has now made seven starts this season posting an ERA of 3.64 and a WHIP of 1.38. His strikeout rate is down from what it once was when he won the Cy Young in 2020, but he is still an incredible pitcher who can command the strike zone.
The Guardians could get a significant return if they made Bieber available for trade, but he still has two years left of team control so it's not a move they need to make.
