ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that opposing MLB executives think the Cleveland Guardians could trade Shane Bieber.
Today is June 1 and the trade rumors are already alive. With many teams being hopeful contenders, it'll be interesting to see which teams emerge as buyers and sellers at the deadline.
One team who may be both is the Cleveland Guardians.
Cleveland is in desperate need of some more offense, while also having who could be the most coveted trade target at the deadline. That's All-Star and Cy Young-winning starting pitcher Shane Bieber.
Would the Guardians even be willing to trade Bieber? Opposing MLB executives sure do seem to think so.
Jeff Passan reported in his latest article that,
The Guardians could trade Bieber and still come out of any deal a better team. Trading the ace for a proven MLB power bat would give the team the offense they desperately need.
Cleveland also has a plethora of young starting pitching who are ready to make their mark at the Big League level. We're already seeing it with Logan Allen and Tanner Bibee, but the Guardians also have Gaving Williams in Triple-A ready and waiting for his debut as well.
There are still two full months of baseball to be played before the August 1 trade deadline. However, all of the rumors, speculation, and mock trades surrounding Shane Bieber won't die down anytime soon.
