The Cleveland Guardians clinched the American League Central division with their win on Saturday night.
Not only are the Cleveland Guardians headed back to the 2026 MLB Playoffs, but they’re entering the postseason as the American League Central winners.
The Guardians clinched the division on Saturday night with a win, and a little help from some of the other teams around baseball.
There were no guarantees that Cleveland would clinch on Saturday.
A couple of pieces had to fall into place for the Guardians to win the division after game 161. Thankfully for the Guardians, they took care of their own business and got a little bit of help to win the division with one game left in the regular season.
First, Cleveland beat the Kansas City Royals, 11-5. Unlike Friday night’s contest, which came down to the ninth inning, the Guardians got an early lead after a three-run first inning by the Royals and never looked back.
Chase DeLauter, Brayan Rocchio, and Patrick Bailey each hit home runs in the win. In fact, Bailey logged his first multi-home-run game with the Guardians. Cleveland ended up with 11 hits, and the offense looks like it's finding its stride at the perfect time.
Cleveland’s pitching also did its job. Tanner Bibee rebounded after a tough September, pitching 6.0 innings of three-run baseball with six strikeouts; technically, a quality start.
The other domino to fall was the Chicago White Sox losing to the Colorado Rockies, who entered Saturday night with a 57-103 record.

Now that the Guardians have officially clinched the division, it comes with a few other bonuses, too.
Cleveland is now locked into the No. 2 seed in the American League. This means the team gets a bye in the Wild Card round and automatically advances to the American League Division Series, where they will have home-field advantage.
The Guardians will also have a full week off, which would do wonders considering how many minor injuries the team has battled over the final month, and the ability to line up their starting rotation in the order they’d like.
Cleveland has faced adversity and ups and downs throughout the season, but how the Guardians have responded has defined it. Now, they’re right back where they've been the last three seasons: at the top of the American League Central.
