The Cleveland Guardians reportedly made a trade with the Cincinnati Reds to acquire Nathaniel Lowe.
The Cleveland Guardians knew they had to improve their lineup to be a true playoff contender in the American League this season, and they made good on that realization ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
The Guardians added two hitters ahead of Monday's deadline, with the second one coming minutes before the 6:00 PM EST transaction cutoff.
Cleveland acquired Nathaniel Lowe from the Cincinnati Reds, per ESPN's Jeff Passan, in exchange for Minor League catcher RHP Alejandro Rivera.
Lowe is having a great bounce-back year with the Reds, logging a .266/.341/.480 slash line, including 12 home runs. His .821 OPS now ranks first on the Cleveland roster, just ahead of Chase DeLauter's .791 OPS.
Lowe's average exit velocity of 89.8 percent and his barrel rate plus hard-hit rate are all above average. Plus, he doesn't expand the zone for a hitter that prioritizes power. Lowe's chase rate of 27 percent ranks in the 67th percentile, and his whiff rate ranks in th 63rd percentile.

Where this trade gets very interesting is what Cleveland's next moves will be to make room for him on the MLB roster.
At this point in Lowe's career, he doesn't offer much of any defensive versatility, with 47 of his games being at designated hitter, and the other 27 coming at first base.
Where Lowe plays for the Guardians remains to be seen, but a move must come to fit him into the lineup as an everyday player.
Cleveland's first base platoon of Kyle Manzardo and Rhys Hoskins has largely underachieved this year. After this trade, it's likely that either Manzardo will be optioned to Triple-A or Hoskins will be designated for assignment, but the team has not made that decision yet.
Even though there are still some pieces to sort through internally for Cleveland, the team added a bat in Lowe, who will make an immediate impact on a lineup desperate for any offense.
