SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners had one of the most iconic wins in its franchise's history on Friday.
The Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in a 15-inning game in front of over 47,000 fans at T-Mobile Park.
The 15-inning game had a final time of four hours, 58 minutes. And the Seattle faithful were involved throughout the entire contest — from the first pitch at 5:09 p.m. PT to Jorge Polanco's walk-off RBI single at 10:07 p.m. PT.
The M's kept during the game had a "good vibes" meter with a decibel counter showed on a video feed on jumbo screen at T-Mobile Park. The highest noise level the crowd reached that was shown was 109 decibels.
The fans in attendance came unglued after Polanco's game-sealing hit, which sent the Mariners to their first American League Championship Series since 2001.
According to a post on "X" from Seattle's official account, the Mariners' fans reactions shook the ground, which was recorded by the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
Friday wasn't the first time (or likely the last) Seattle fans have been loud or had "seismic" reactions to iconic moments. The Seattle Seahawks' home stadium of Lumen Field has the second-highest noise level among NFL stadiums (137.6).
In the 2010 NFL playoffs, in Seattle's 41-36 win against the New Orleans Saints, running back Marshawn Lynch had a 67-yard touchdown run. The fans reactions registered as a seismic event, leading to the play being coined the "Beast Quake."
The Mariners fans will have a chance to register more seismic events in the ALCS. Seattle will play Game 1 of the ALCS at 5:03 p.m. PT on Sunday at Rogers Centre in Toronto. The Mariners will also play Game 2 of the series in Toronto and will return to the Pacific Northwest for Game 3, 4 and an if-necessary Game 5.
