After a disappointing tenure with the Mariners, Leody Taveras spent most of the year in Triple-A with the Tacoma Rainiers. Now, he'll work to rebound in the Baltimore organization.

Former Seattle Mariners outfielder Leody Taveras has found a new home with the Baltimore Orioles, according to a new report from Mike Rodriguez on social media. Jon Heyman of the New York Post confirmed it.

Taveras elected free agency in mid-October, making him free to sign with any team. Taveras was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers in May and signed with Seattle, but he ended up spending much of the year in Triple-A with the Tacoma Rainiers.

    The Taveras time in Seattle

Picking up Taveras was a worthwhile gamble by Jerry Dipoto and company as the Mariners were in drastic need of outfield help early in the season. Dominic Canzone wasn't up with the major league roster yet, and both Luke Raley and Victor Robles were hurt. Robles ended up missing most of the season, only returning in early September.

The M's paid nearly $4 million to Taveras for the season, picking up a hefty arbitration deal, and to their credit, they also didn't let the experiment linger too long. They designated him for assignment in early June and brought Canzone back, but Taveras went to Tacoma.

He hit just .174 with Seattle, posting a .198 on-base percentage in 28 games. However, he did have a few big hits, including a game-tying single in his first game with the organization. That was against the Athletics in Sacramento.

How the Mariners outfield shapes up right now

With Taveras out of the picture, the Mariners currently have Julio Rodriguez, Robles, Raley, Randy Arozarena and Canzone as outfielders on the major league roster. There's been speculation that Raley could be non-tendered, but that's unknown at this point.

The M's also have Rhylan Thomas on the 40-man roster. He made his major league debut in 2025.

Top prospects Lazaro Montes and Jonny Farmelo are not on the 40-man roster yet, but they are expected to do big things when their time comes.

    Up next for the M's

The general manager's meetings will come up next week (Nov. 11-13) and that's where some of the ground work might get laid for bigger deals, which tend to happen at the winter meetings (Dec. 7-10). Until then, the offseason will likely remain a slog from a transaction period, but major league awards will be announced over the next several days.
