Current Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt won the American League Manager of the Year award at the expense of Dan Wilson

This past season, the Seattle Mariners put together arguably the best year in franchise history.

The Mariners finished 90-72 and won its first American League West championship and made its first American League Championship Series, respectively, since 2001. Seattle made it to Game 7 of the ALCS before ultimately falling to the Toronto Blue Jays. It was the first time ever the M's were one win away from the World Series.

At the helm of Seattle during its franchise-best year was manager Dan Wilson.

The former Mariners catcher was hired to his current role Aug. 22, 2024, and completed his first-ever full year as a major league skipper this season. He became the first manager in franchise history to lead Seattle to the playoffs in his first full year at the position.

For this accomplishment, Wilson was up for the American League Manager of the Year award.

The winner of the annual award was announced Tuesday, and Wilson was passed over in favor of a former Mariners coach.

Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt won the award for the second-straight year.

Vogt earned 17 first-place votes, eight second-place votes and four third place votes to earn 113 points total. Blue Jays skipper John Schneider finished second with 91 points and Wilson finished third with 50.

Vogt helped lead the Guardians to an 88-74 record and a second-straight AL Central championship. Cleveland entered the final month of the regular season in September 10.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the division, and made up the difference to win the AL Central.

Last year, Vogt won the AL Manager of the Year award after helping lead the Guardians to a 92-69 record.

Vogt had his first major league coaching job with Seattle.

The Mariners hired Vogt as the bullpen and quality control coach Jan. 10, 2023. He was with the team one season before he was hired as Cleveland's skipper Nov. 6, 2023. His current role is his first as a major league manager.

Vogt's latest honor marks the third time in four seasons a Guardians skipper has won the award. Terry Francona won in 2022.

Seattle has had a skipper win AL Manager of the Year just twice since the club was established in 1977. Lou Piniella won the award in 1995 and 2001.
