There's a lot of anticipation on what the Seattle Mariners will do in the 2025-26 offseason.
The Mariners made it to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series before falling to the Toronto Blue Jays on Oct. 20.
Seattle has several key contributors from last season that will be testing free agency. The hope for the club is that it can bring back at least one of them, ideally first baseman Josh Naylor.
Time will tell whether the Mariners will bring back Naylor or other marquee free agents.
In the mean time, Seattle has used the beginning stages of the offseason to add depth to its bullpen in preparation for 2026.
Within the last week, the Mariners acquired right-handed reliever Cole Wilcox in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays and claimed right-handed reliever Ryan Loutos off waivers from the Washington Nationals.
Seattle brought in another reliever Tuesday.
The Mariners signed right-handed reliever Randy Dobnak to a minor league contract with a non-roster invite to spring training, according to report from ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan.
Dobnak has spent nearly the entirety of his professional career with the Minnesota Twins.
Dobnak was signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent out of Alderson Broaddus University, which has since shuttered its doors.
The 30-year-old righty made his major league debut in 2019. He was originally used as an emergency started, but since has transitioned to a long relief option.
Dobnak made major league appearances for the Twins in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025.
In his career, Dobnak has posted a 4.86 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 140.2 innings pitched across 39 appearances (21 stars). In '25, Dobnak had one outing against the St. Louis Cardinals on March 30. He fanned one batter, walked two and allowed one earned run on two hits (one home run) in 5.1 innings pitched.
Dobnak and right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack were traded by the Twins to the Detroit Tigers in return for catcher Enrique Jimenez on July 28.
Dobnak made 26 appearances (18 starts) across his stints with Minnesota and Detroit's respective Triple-A affiliates. He posted a 5.84 ERA and fanned 77 batters in 98.2 innings pitched.
Seattle had to test the depth of its organization's pitching staff this season due to injuries to the starting rotation and bullpen. At his best, Dobnak could be an innings-eater for the Mariners when they have to have a bullpen day or if the bullpen is taxed.
