The National League and American League's respective championship series have concluded, and for every team not named the Los Angeles Dodgers or Toronto Blue Jays, the focus will now be turned toward the offseason.
And one of the teams that finished near the cellar of the AL could find an answer to their open managerial position in the form of a former Seattle Mariners skipper.
According to a story from Charlie Wright of MLB Trade Rumors, via a report from Minnesota Star Tribune columnist LaVelle E. Neal, the Minnesota Twins have interest in hiring former Mariners manager Scott Servais for the same role.
Servais is reportedly part of an extensive list of candidates for the Twins that also includes Vance Wilson, Nick Punto, James Rowson and Ramon Vazquez.
Of that list, Servais and Shelton are the only two with major league managerial experience.
Servais managed Seattle from 2016-24 and oversaw most of a complete roster turnover. That organizational overhaul saw the Mariners snap its at the time 21-year postseason drought in 2022.
In his near-nine seasons managing Seattle, Servais had a record of 668-624.
The Mariners were eliminated from playoff contention in the final week of the season in 2021 and '23, and Servais was fired on Aug. 22, 2024, with the team at a 64-64 record. At the time of his dismissal, Seattle had blown a double-digit lead in the American League West to the Houston Astros. At the time of his firing, he was the only manager in franchise history aside from Lou Piniella to lead the team to the playoffs.
Servais' replacement, Dan Wilson, became the third manager to guide the club to the postseason this year. The Mariners forced a Game 7 in the ALCS against the Blue Jays and lost 4-3.
Servais was hired as a special assistant for player development by the San Diego Padres on Jan. 11, 2025, and served in that role for all this season.
If Servais were to be hired by Minnesota, he would likely have to oversee another roster rebuild.
The Twins were the biggest sellers at the trade deadline this year. Among the key players traded by the organization were shortstop Carlos Correa, relievers Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax and Louis Varland and infielders Willi Castro and Ty France, among others.
