The Seattle Mariners entered the Monday nine innings and one win away from making the first World Series in the 48-year history of the franchise.
The Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays entered Monday tied 3-3 in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, with Game 7 set to take place that day at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
With the win-or-go-home implications, Seattle's biggest stars played like it.
Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez hit a lead-off double in the top of the first inning and later scored on an RBI single hit by first baseman Josh Naylor.
Rodriguez's run gave Seattle a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first after their respective center fielder, Daulton Varsho, hit an RBI single.
Rodriguez broke the tie in the top of the third with a solo home run to left field.
In the top of the fifth, the Mariners' All-Star catcher joined in on the fun and added another record to his history-making 2025.
Cal Raleigh hit a solo home run to right field to bolster Seattle's lead to 3-1.
That homer, which traveled 381 feet with an exit velo of 102.1 mph, was Raleigh's fifth of the postseason.
After Raleigh's home run, his playoff stats for this year were: eight runs in 12 games; he hit two doubles with his five homers to go with eight RBIs. He had a slash line of .304/.396/.674 with a 1.070 OPS.
In the regular season, Raleigh scored 110 runs in 159 games and hit 24 doubles and 60 home runs with 125 RBIs. He slashed .247/.359/.589 with a .948 OPS. His 60 homers were the most for a switch hitter and a catcher in a single season in MLB history.
Between Raleigh's 60 homers in the regular season and five in the postseason, he set a record for the most total home runs in a single year, including the postseason, in MLB history.
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge had the previous record with 64 in 2022. He hit 62 in the regular season, which set the AL record, and two in the playoffs.
Raleigh and Judge are considered the two finalists for the AL MVP award, which will be revealed in November after the World Series has concluded. Voting was done by the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) before the start of the postseason.
